Joseph J. Kilchenstein, 89, of Allegheny Township, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 6, 1935 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late John A. Kilchenstein & Philomena (Yago) Kilchenstein.

Joe was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Mt. Oliver, and attended the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University,

and Slippery Rock University. He proudly served our country with the United States Navy, the National Guard, and the US Army Reserves.

Joe worked as a state police officer in Pittsburgh for seven years, then was the owner/operator of Joe Kilchenstein Driving School in Pittsburgh for 25 years, retiring in 2003.

Joe loved playing cards and going on casino trips.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph M. Kilchenstein; brothers, John G., Henry, Kenneth; and his sisters, Rita & Isabella.

Joe is survived by his wife of 20 years, Violet "Jeanne" (Chambers) Kilchenstein; daughters, Agnes (Steve) Paff of Aspinwall, Karen (Tom) Bayer of Robinson Township, Amy Byrnes of Pittsburgh; stepson, David (Charlotte) Watt of Millsboro, DE; step-daughter, Bobbi (Kristy) Watt Geer of Murrysville; grandson, Daniel Block; step-grandchildren, Megan (Gunnar) Arnesen, Sam (Caitlin) Geer, Katie Trautmann; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 3055 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Private entombment in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, at the convenience of the family.
