Funeral services for Michael Laborde (Tooney), 81, will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be Father Jim Moran.

Michael (Tooney) LaBorde was born to Flossie and Erling LaBorde in Moncla, Louisiana on November 19, 1942. He moved to Shreveport with his family and met his sweetheart, Evy LaBorde, who he married on December 2, 1961. They had one child, Therese Lynette LaBorde Merrill. He worked as a pipefitter throughout his life and retired from this profession in 2005. He passed away at home after a lengthy illness on August 24, 2024.

If you knew Tooney you knew that he was a hard worker, an honest man and you never had to guess where you stood with him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and found his peace in the great outdoors. He adored his grandson Jordan and nicknamed him “the Boots.” He shared his passion with Jordan and taught him everything he knew about hunting and fishing from a very early age. Later in life he took up gardening and filled his days with tender loving care of his beautiful garden.

Tooney is preceded in death by his parents, Flossie and Erling Laborde; brother, Jackie Ray; and nephew, Rory LaBorde. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Evy LaBorde; daughter, Therese Merrill; grandson, Jordan Pope; sister, Sheila LaBorde Rizzo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Honoring Tooney as pallbearers will be Matt Merrill, Jordan Pope, Bill Hawks, Brad Sandifer, Mark Davis, and Robert Wilkerson.

He will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him as he was a great presence who loved his family fiercely. We know that he is resting in the arms of Jesus, and we all look forward to the day we meet again.
