Michael D. Lauer

Born September 25, 1945, Michael entered into eternal rest on September 20, 2025. Michael graduated from Dover Area High School in 1963. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy, completing two years of active duty, two years in the reserves, and two years on standby. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, and served aboard the USS Sierra as a Diesel Engine Repairman (EN3), earning the National Defense Service Medal. During his time of service, he sailed to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Michael dedicated more than 35 years of his career to York Borg Warner, which later became York International and is now Johnson Controls, before retiring. After retiring, Michael worked part time at the Hanover Walmart in the hardware and sporting good department.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Mummert) Lauer of Spring Grove; his son, Mark Lauer of Abbottstown; and his daughter, Denise (Lauer) Helt and husband Jason of Lewisberry. Michael was the son of the late Henry P. Lauer Sr. and Josephine (Baker) Lauer. He is also survived by his brother Henry P. Lauer Jr. and wife Rachel of Seven Valleys; his sister Jean and husband Gary Lam of Seven Valleys; his brother-in-law David Lee Mummert and wife Gloria Jean of Thomasville; as well as five nephews and two nieces: Phil Lauer, Michelle (Lauer) Gable, Chad Lam, Eric Lam, Blaine Mummert, Brenda (Mummert) Briggs, and Brian Mummert.

Michael was a former member of Christ Roth's Lutheran Church and the UAW Credit Union. He also served as a leader for the Thomasville 4-H Community Club.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling, with memorable trips to South Dakota, Alaska (land and sea), Jamaica, and the Western Caribbean. At home, Michael found joy in woodworking, relaxing at the family cabin, and caring for three beloved grand-dogs.

Michael will be laid to rest with military honors at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
