Michael Leary Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DuPage Cremations, Ltd. and Memorial Chapel on Mar. 2, 2026.
Michael John Leary, 70, of Naperville, passed away on March 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with Leukemia.

Mike was funny, loving, and strong - the kind of man whose presence filled a room and whose laughter made everything feel a little lighter. He faced life the same way he faced his illness: with grit, heart, and a stubborn determination that defined him.

Mike proudly joined the United States Air Force and later transferred to the IL Air National Guard. In 1984, he was honorably discharged and began his 34 year career with United Airlines as an Aircraft Mechanic.

He loved football and could always be counted on to have the game on, offering commentary whether anyone asked for it or not. But more than anything, he loved being a grandpa. His grandson Cameron was his pride and joy, and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time together and sharing laughs.

Above all, Mike was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Leary; his son, Jonathan (Whitney) Leary; his daughter, Emily Leary; and his grandson, Cameron Leary. The love he built within his family will remain his greatest legacy.

He is also survived by his siblings Margaret (late Henry) Kacinskas, Nancy (Harry) Fischer, Stephen (Michele) Leary, Christine (late Gary) Olson, Thomas (Marilyn) Leary, Robert Leary, Patricia Leary, Daniel (Susan) Leary as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mike lived by the words, "Que sera, sera" - whatever will be, will be. It was a simple phrase, but it reflected his steady spirit and acceptance of life as it came.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered for his strength, humor, and unwavering love for his family.

A Memorial Visitation for Michael will be held at DuPage Funeral Chapel (951 W. Washington Street, West Chicago) on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 4-8 PM, with a service beginning at 7 PM.
