It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Allen Lewis, a beloved son, partner, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on October 16, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 56.
Born and raised in Morehead City, North Carolina, to Mary Ann Lewis, Michael was known for his warm heart, infectious laughter, and the rare gift of making everyone around him feel seen and valued. He was a guy’s guy in the very best sense. If it had bolts, beams, or blueprints, Michael could build it. He could turn a wrench, build a truck from the ground up, frame a house, and fix anything placed in front of him. Friends and neighbors across the state knew him as the one to call when something needed doing, and he showed up with a steady hand, a clear mind, and a smile.
Michael’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his partner in life, Jaime Lyn Barefoot; his daughter, Mya Margaret Lewis; his son, Chandler Pope, wife, Kelsey; and his cherished granddaughter, Kinsley. He is also survived by his loving mother, Mary Ann Lewis; his mother-in-law, Candace O’Neal; his uncle Randy Matthews, wife Julie; his aunt Evelyn Hall, husband Bernie; and his aunt Bonnie Barefoot. Michael’s family extended across the globe to his exchange children, Lotte Heesen of the Netherlands, Hannah Pulmer of Germany, Penda Gueye of Italy, and Marina Raschetti of Spain, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Mya Margaret was the apple of his eye and had him wrapped around her fingers. Most days you could find them cruising around town together. They rode the side-by-side, doing farm work on the tractor, or hopped in the golf cart to watch the deer and birds and all the wildlife that made home feel like a little slice of paradise. Those everyday adventures were his happiest hours.
Throughout his life, Michael led with kindness. He offered encouragement when spirits were low, humor when days were heavy, and practical help whenever it was needed. He leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and quiet strength that will continue to guide those who knew him.
Michael lived life with very few regrets, and he filled his days with adventure. He loved four-wheeling in the mountains, chasing the sunrise on offshore fishing trips, and setting out on journeys near and far. He savored cruises with the people he loved, and he never missed a chance to take the boat to Cape Lookout for days that always seemed to run a little long. Some of the sweetest memories were made on camping trips under a sky full of stars, where stories were shared and laughter carried late into the night. He chose adventure at every turn and brought the rest of us along for the ride.
A celebration of life will be announced in May/June 2026 at Cape Lookout Lighthouse. To honor Michael’s memory, the family asks that you spread love, show compassion, and support one another, just as Michael did every day.
Rest in peace, Michael Allen Lewis. Your goodness, your laughter, and your steadfast presence will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers the family will be setting up an account as Mya's Fund to help Mya Margaret for college.
