Michael Edward Lohan, Jr. passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in Monroe. Mike was born on September 18, 1936, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Michael Edward Lohan, Sr. and Genevieve Feeney Lohan. Mike was preceded in death by both of his parents as well his lifelong faithful friends Suzanne and Jerry Wolff.

Affectionately known as Mr. Mike, he dedicated 12 years of his life to working at the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Mike was known for his unwavering dedication, punctuality, and hard work, earning the respect and friendship of Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell and deputies, who now mourn the loss of a valued friend and colleague.

Before his tenure at the Sheriff’s Office, Mike was an employee at Ford, Bacon, & Davis and also worked at NLU/ULM, where he once served as a baseball trainer. He delighted in sharing stories of road trips to face formidable teams like Florida State.

Over the years, anyone in Monroe connected to the sports scene recognized Mr. Mike as an avid supporter of college and local high school athletics, especially in football and baseball. He was a regular presence at Neville and ULM basketball, football, and baseball games.  Mike was always up to date and enjoyed talking about the local kids who went on to play major college or even professional sports.

Mike's spiritual life revolved around Jesus the Good Shepherd Church and the Knights of Columbus. Mike attended Mass every Saturday with his “Supper Club” group. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 63 years. He became a Knight in 1960 and was the oldest active member of Monroe Council 1337. As a Third Degree Knight he served a term as Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight and Warden where he provided unwavering dedication and support to the Order. He was also a member of the Fourth Degree, the patriotic arm of the Order, where he served as Navigator, Admiral, Captain, Pilot, Inner Sentinel, and terms as a Trustee. In 2002 he was awarded the George L. Heller Memorial Award for outstanding service to church, community, and the Fourth Degree.

His large circle of friends and neighbors, who cherished him, will deeply miss him. Those closest to Mike held him as a dear friend, considering him family. Always present at family gatherings, he is remembered with eternal gratitude for the cherished memories and the great times shared with him.
