Michael Joseph Lorang, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend passed away on October 8, 2024, after a twenty-six-year courageous battle with an autoimmune disease. He was born on June 12, 1952, in Adrian, MN, to his parents, Joseph and Doris Lorang.
Mike grew up on his family farm in Lismore with his siblings, Jerry, Jane, Nancy, Mark, Kent, and Marsha. He attended St. Anthony Catholic School and graduated from Adrian High School in 1971. Mike met the love of his life, Deb Winter, at a dance at the Worthington Coliseum. What began that night blossomed into a lifelong love and devotion. They were married on June 8, 1974, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, marking the beginning of a wonderful fifty-year marriage. Together, they created a beautiful life and raised two children, Jody and Justin.
Mike spent most of his working years employed by the City of Worthington. He transitioned through several positions for the city, eventually ending with the street department. Mike especially enjoyed working for the street department because of the variety of work and it afforded him an opportunity to enjoy the changing seasons.
Hunting, fishing, and camping were among Mike's favorite pastimes. He especially enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was taking his family fishing or hunting in the fall. Camping was probably Mike's favorite pastime, because it involved friends and family. In 1980, he and Deb purchased their first camper, and for the next 44 years, they enjoyed countless weekends of recreation throughout the region.
Family was very important to Mike. He placed a high priority on being there for his family and really tried to never miss a holiday, milestone, or special event for any of his family members. Mike very much enjoyed watching his kids and later his grandkids compete in sports, excel in school, and grow as individuals.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his family, including his wife, Deb (Worthington); two children, Jody (Lance) Holt of Sioux Falls, SD, and Justin (Allyson) Lorang of Woodbury, MN; six grandchildren, Alex (Amberly) Holt, Kaleb Holt, Jacob Holt, Lucas Lorang, Benjamin Lorang, and Nathan Lorang; two great-grandchildren, Ophelia and Liam Holt; three brothers, Jerry (Rhonda) Lorang of Worthington, Mark (Janine) Lorang of Lismore, and Kent (Ellen Lenz) Lorang of Ottertail, MN; three sisters, Jane (Don) Rysavy of Poinciana, FL, Nancy (Carl) Larson of Prior Lake, and Marsha (Lonnie) Edwards of Heron Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Doris Lorang; his infant brother, Lyle; and his father- and mother-in-law, Harold and Harriet Winter. He was also preceded in death by many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, along with other cherished family members and friends. Though he has departed this earth. Mike's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will forever be treasured. May he rest in peace, forever embraced by the warmth of our collective hearts.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday, October 15, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral Mass will be 11 am Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. Tim Biren. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery.
