Michael Lynch Obituary

Lynch, Michael John

passed away peacefully in his home in Boynton Beach, FL surrounded by those he loved on June 7, 2025. Born on October 12, 1939 in Salem, MA he was the eldest son of Irish immigrants, the late Nora C. (Manning) and John S. Lynch. He was the beloved husband of Erika Baber Lynch whom he married in 1965 and devoted father to four daughters.

He is survived by his wife, Erika and his daughters, Nora Lynch Smith and her husband James of Sherborn, MA, Erika Lynch Redmond and her husband Gregory of Mountain Brook, AL, Karen Lynch Calton and her husband Eric of Washington, DC, and Meghan Lynch Jackson and her husband Curt of Austin, Texas. He loved his 13 grandchildren, Stewart and Mary Jo Smith; Aisling, Ella, Gregory Jr., and Ryan Redmond; Margaret Ellen, Thomas and Luke Jackson; and Katherine, Caroline, Anne and Brooke Calton. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Margaret Cialone of Salem, MA and his brother, Francis Lynch of Lynn, MA and wife Marcia as well as his nephew, Jonathan Lynch and wife Keri. His two nephews Patrick and Andrew Lynch predeceased him.

Dr. Lynch attended St. Pius School and St. Mary's Boy's School in Lynn, MA and went on to become the first in his family to attend college. He graduated from Boston College in 1962 and from St. Louis University Medical School in 1966. It was there, in St. Louis, where he met his wife of 60 years, Erika.

He went on to serve in the United State Navy for eight years, completing Submarine training and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His time in the Navy brought him and his growing family to Hawaii for several years where he made several lifelong military friends. Upon completion of his military service he eventually settled in St. Petersburg, FL with his wife and their four daughters. It is here where Dr. Lynch started his Internal Medicine and Oncology practice. He also became involved at his parish, St. Raphael's Catholic Church and Catholic School, where all four of his daughters attended grammar school.

Dr. Lynch considered his profession a vocation and treated it as such, spending time volunteering weekly at the Tumor Clinic serving those in need when he wasn't seeing patients in his Internal Medicine and Oncology practice. He also acted as Chief of Staff at Bayfront Medical Center as well as President of the Florida Chapter of the American Cancer Society among his various professional titles.

When he wasn't on call, he savored free weekends with his four daughters sailing in the waters of Tampa Bay on his sailboat 'Amazing Grace.' He was an avid reader and was quite proud of his leather-bound Great Books collection. A black belt in Karate, he also enjoyed playing guitar and singing John Denver songs or an Irish ballad. However, the true legacy he leaves his family is his adoration and true faith in the Lord which he exemplified in every way caring for his patients, his friends and his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Requiem Mass which will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 11 am at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, 1376 Snell Isle Blvd. NE, in St. Petersburg, FL.

I am the daughter of Irene & George Barutis and granddaughter of Irene & Michael Baber - Erika, I remember you, Erna and Gundi so fondly - so very sorry for your loss. Know that I am sending love from NJ....as a little girl I was always in awe of the beauty of you and & your sisters (inside & out).

I first met Mike at a barbecue. This was a man who loved his hamburgers. What I perceived was a man of quiet strength. A man who contributed greatly to the lives of many. As I learned about his background, over time, it reminded me of the book "A Few Good Men." The book easily could have been written about Mike. As a doctor and serviceman, Mike was certainly in the front line of things. I am certainly glad I got to meet Mike and only wish he had stayed with us a little bit longer.

I first knew Dr. Lynch as a parishioner, then privilege to be under his care as my physician. But most of all blessed to call him one of the closest friends the Good Lord ever brought into my life. We have lost a loyal son of the Church, a skilled medical professional, dedicated family man and a loving friend. My journey has been better for knowing Michael for most of my life. Mike you will be missed and always loved, Mark
