Michael Mahoney Obituary
Mr. Mahoney was born in Wilmington, Delaware, a son of the late Francis Matthew and Hazel Cottrell Mahoney. Prior to retirement, he was a Police Officer in Fairfax County, VA and then retired as a Firefighter and Paramedic in Loudoun County, VA. He also served as helicopter paramedic with the Fairfax County Police Department. Mr. Mahoney was a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1974 and was a member of the VMI Alumni Association. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Gracie Russell. Mr. Mahoney was an avid golfer.
Surviving are: his wife, Patricia W. Mahoney of Conway; one step-son, Stephen M. Russell (Jonni) of Manassas, VA; two step daughters, Shannon Virts (Keith) of Stephen City, VA and Ashley Cogar (Joshua) of Aldie, VA; four grandchildren, Jake Virts, Addison Virts, Ryan Russell, and Harper Russell; two brothers, Steve Mahoney (Deanne) of Burke, VA and Chris Mahoney (Bridget Owens) of Aldie, VA; two sisters, Patti Watson Peters (Ed) of Duval, Washington and Cathy Crummett (Gary) of Rockingham, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Kyle Randle officiating. A memorial service will be held in Virginia in September.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the VMI Alumni Association, 319 Letcher Ave., Lexington, VA 24450.

Just saw on Facebook that Mike has passed. So very very sorry to hear of his passing. We were friends in high school and during his time at VMI. Mike was one of a kind. He will be missed. Prayers to his family.

Patty and family, so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was one of my favorites at LCFR. We started out as co-workers and quickly became friends. I will always remember our many spirited conversations over the years. He was very passionate about his position at LCFR and I always admired him for that. Prayers to you and the family and hope to catch up in Virginia.

Today I received the very sad news that a friend and former colleague suddenly passed away. Mike and I worked together for many years as flight officers in the Fairfax County Police Helicopter Division. He was a joy to be around and there are far too many good memories that come to my mind that there is space here to discuss...but my memories of Mike just bring a smile and a good laugh thinking of the times we
shared. A good man is gone way too soon and I´ll miss him.
