Michael Marelli Obituary

Michael Anthony Marelli

1940 - 2025

Draper, UT - Michael Anthony Marelli-known affectionately as "Pa" to his grandchildren-passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Draper, Utah, at age 85.

Mike married the love of his life, Dixie Lee Rose, on January 27, 1962, and they shared 63 years of love and partnership. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Michael and Joseph (Shane preceded him in death); seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren-each a precious part of his legacy.

Born May 20, 1940, in Salt Lake City to Joseph and Margaret (Disorbio) Marelli, Mike embraced learning and service from an early age. In 1959, he joined the Marine Corps Reserve with the intention of commissioning as an officer, but an athletic injury led to his honorable discharge the following year. He went on to earn a B.S. in Biology from the University of Utah in 1962.

Mike devoted his career to education as a counselor, principal, and ultimately Director of Applied Technologies for the Salt Lake City School District. He believed in empowering students and championed programs that helped them discover and develop their strengths.

A lifelong seeker of knowledge, Mike was rarely seen without a book in hand-whether on religion, philosophy, astronomy, technology, or any topic that sparked his curiosity. He was also a proud member of the Kiwanis Club, contributing his time and energy to bettering his community and the lives of children.

Above all else, Mike treasured time with his family. Many summers were spent together at the family cabin in Scofield, where lasting memories were made. He enjoyed relaxing with a good old western or an episode of Star Trek, a reflection of his love for history and the possibilities of the future.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 15, at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Homes & Cremation Center, 1007 W South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to honor his memory may send flowers to the funeral home, which the family will greatly appreciate.

Yesterday

Mike was a very kid and faithful district employee. I saw him on several occasions at SL Community H.S. and then at West and Horizonte. He always remembered me and I am thankful for our friendship. God Bless all of you.
Sincerely, Jolyn Geigle
