Michael Joseph Martin, 70 of Toms River died Monday December 30, 2024. Born and raised in Newark to Leo & Dorothy (Maschefzky) Martin, Mike made a home in Little Falls with his beloved wife Kathy for over 35 years before moving to Toms River 4 years ago.
Mike was employed by Fleet Management of Essex County for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 2020.
Mike led an active and fulfilling life. He had a deep passion for fishing, traveling, and camping, often spending weekends outdoors enjoying nature. As an avid racing fan Mike enjoyed races at Pocono, Watkins Glen, and Daytona Beach. Mike also enjoyed participating in bowling leagues with friends and family.
Eager to support his community. He spent many years volunteering with the Boy Scouts, mentoring young people and sharing his love of adventure with them. Mike had a personality that would brighten up any room and it wouldn't surprise his family if he found someone he knew wherever he went. Above all, Mike cherished his time with family and friends. His warm heart, generosity, and sense of humor made him a beloved figure to all who knew him.
Mike is predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Kathy (Buttner). He is survived by two sons; Michael & Eric, by a daughter, Colleen Palmeri & husband John, by a grandson John-Michael, by four brothers; Leo & wife Kathy, Daniel & wife Janice, Ken & wife Barbara, and John & wife Valeria, by two sisters; Barbara Sookraj & Janet Martin-Dlugosz, and by his companion Nancy Michell.
Private cremation services were held under the direction of Allwood Funeral Home. A celebration of Michael's life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in Michael's name can be made to The American Heart Association
