On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Michael James Mascari, beloved husband of Katherine Mardell Mascari, went to his eternal home. He was 96 years old, born to Lawrence and Madeline Mascari on April 21, 1929. Mike was the oldest of 8 children, all born in Racine, Wisconsin.
Lawrence, Madeline and their 8 children moved to San Diego, California where Mike graduated from St. Augustine Catholic High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Army. Shortly thereafter, he was introduced to his wife Bette Jo and they were married in May of 1951.
After Mike’s honorable discharge from the United States Army, he began pursuing a degree in Mathematics at San Diego State College. In three years, Mike graduated and began his career as one of the first in the field of computer science. After being employed with Rohr, Convair, and General Dynamics, he made the decision to start his own successful business as a computer programming contractor.
Mike was very involved in many ministries such as Rotary of Mission Valley, Kairos Prison Ministry International, and Cursillo. In his early years, he was a basketball coach for young boys at Nazerath House in San Diego. He had a passion for the poor and the homeless and on many occasions, you could find him serving them. One of Mike’s finest qualities was his generosity of time and money.
Above all, family was most important to Mike. When Mike’s beloved wife Bette died, after 42 years of marriage, he was blessed to have found new love … Katherine.
Mike is survived by his sons Michael and Mark; and daughters, Renee, Rhonda and Lisa; along with 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his second wife Katherine and her 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Grandpa Mike was always delighted to spend time with his grands. They brought him so much joy especially in his last days.
For some time now, Mike was looking forward to meeting His Lord and Savior - Jesus Christ.
He will be greatly missed.
