Michael Mastro, age 75, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, in Bonanza, Oregon. Born on September 25, 1949, in Dover, New Hampshire, he was the beloved son of the late Gerald Joseph Mastro and Martha Rita Mastro (née Cote).
Michael had a larger-than-life personality that filled every room he entered. He was the heart of his family-its biggest supporter, loudest cheerleader, and most loyal presence. He loved deeply and lived fully, never missing an opportunity to show up for the people he cared about.
For the past 33 years, Michael shared his life with his partner and best friend, Karol Nelson of Bonanza, Oregon. Their bond was filled with laughter, adventure, and unconditional love. Michael cherished every moment with Karol, and they built a life rooted in devotion, friendship, and joy.
He found his greatest happiness being surrounded by his family. Whether it was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports, cooking and smoking meats for gatherings, or simply showing up wherever his loved ones were, Michael's presence was constant and comforting. His favorite places were wherever his family was.
In addition to Karol, Michael is survived by his beloved daughter, Amy Mastro, whom he cherished with all of his heart and whom he rooted for with all of his being to the very end of his days. He is survived by a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought endless joy and pride to his life: Josh "Chaser" Gibson (Kala) and Haedyn and Autzyn Gibson; Carly Anderson (John) and Tate and Reed Anderson; Haily Short and Grace Short, and Karter and Karsen Schwebke; Michael Short and Cassius, Chael, and Caprice Short; Rayann Jackson and Zaylynn Gordon; and David Jackson, all of
Klamath Falls, Oregon. He is also survived by several honorary grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Robert (Erynne) Fore; Eddie (Amanda) Fore and Corina and Henry Fore; Michael (Amelia) Fore and Olivia Fore; and Paytyn Law. His niece, Adrien (Carl) Kline, and great niece, Dannika & Makenna Fleek.
Finally, he is survived by his siblings: Gerald "GJ" Mastro of Dover, New Hampshire; Peter Mastro of Candia, New Hampshire; and Alice Casebeer of
Klamath Falls, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Richard Mastro, his baby brother Paul Mastro, honorary daughter Jennifer Nelson, and honorary grandson Garrin Boersma.
Michael was a passionate sports fan. He proudly supported the Los Angeles Chargers, cheered on the Boston Red Sox, and followed the San Diego Padres-a team close to his heart from his many years living in Southern California. He also loved to stay active and especially enjoyed riding his exercise bike.
Michael's life was rich with love, laughter, and loyalty. His fierce devotion to family, his booming presence, and his generous spirit will be missed beyond measure. He leaves behind a legacy of love, support, and unforgettable memories.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held by the family from noon to 5 p.m. on August 9, 2025 at 31818 Price Street, Bonanza, Oregon. A meal will be provided. If you have outdoor chairs, please bring them along.
