Louis Mastro Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home - Turtle Creek on Jan. 3, 2026.
Formerly of Pitcairn, a long-time resident of Michigan, age 93, died on Saturday, December 27, 2025. He was raised in Pitcairn and was a 1948 graduate of Pitcairn High School where he served as President of his Senior Class. Lou then attended Duquesne University and after graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served as a 1st Lt. Medic during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Army, he enrolled in Carnegie Mellon University and earned another degree. Lou became an Industrial Designer & later co-owner of Sundberg & Ferar Design in Detroit.

Lou was the youngest of his 6 siblings and he always took the time to spend occasions with them, either at family gatherings, traveling for special events or visiting interesting places. He enjoyed golfing and boating, having lived on Pontiac Lake for many years and recently living at Dunham Lake. We certainly will miss our visits with Uncle Lou.

Louis was never married but enjoyed many activities with his beloved nieces & nephews. Lou is survived by his nieces and nephews, Nancy (Joe) Lonsinger Shalkowski, Mark (Sheila) Waibel, Gary (Mary Ann) Radus, Kathy (the late Howard) Waibel, Matthew (Gina) Waibel, Pam (Conrad) Radus Dobler, David (Debbie) Radus, Mary Jane (Gary) Miller Korber, and Karen (Jimmy) Miller Brian; his friends, Sue & Larry Bowen, Janet & Bill Caryl, and Helios Tenaglia, as well as many great nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Matteo & Mary (nee Cavoto) Mastrogiacomo; his sisters, Mary Ann Mastrogiacomo, Theresa (late Albert) Lonsinger, Margaret (late Eugene) Radus, Rose (late Paul) Waibel, Maryannia (late Carl) Miller, and Jean (late Joseph) Mimnaugh; and his nieces & nephews, Richard Miller, Carla Miller Brian, and Kenneth Waibel.

Friends are welcome on Thursday from 2-7pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 15145 (412) 823-9350.

Lou will then be laid to rest with Military Honors at St. Joseph Cemetery.
