Michael Matalone Obituary

Michael F. 'Super' Matalone

Michael F. "Super" Matalone passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at St. Luke's Miner's Memorial Hospital, Coaldale.

A proud graduate of Nesquehoning High School, Class of 1954, Michael worked for many years as an assemblyman for the former AT&T Corporation, Allentown.

Michael's personality was one of a kind. He possessed a flair for the English language that made him truly unique. This charm and wit enriched every interaction and left those around him with lasting impressions.

Outside of his professional life, Michael was an avid hunter and fisherman, passions that brought him great joy and relaxation. He especially cherished the numerous fishing trips to Canada shared with his enthusiastic "crew," adventures that provided treasured memories and camaraderie.

His devotion to his community extended far beyond his fishing expeditions. As a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Nesquehoning, Michael embraced his faith.

Furthermore, he was a steadfast and active presence in local organizations, including the New Columbus Fire Company, where he served as a former steward. He also was a member of the Nesquehoning Conservation Club, helped to coach Nesquehoning Knee-Hi Football, and was involved with the Nesquehoning Cub Scouts, embodying a spirit of service and fellowship.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Michele McHugh, and her companion, Gary Sagan, of Nesquehoning; his granddaughter, Sarah McHugh, and her companion, Chris Fallabel, of Jim Thorpe; and a beloved great-granddaughter, Sophia Fallabel. He will also be remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joseph and Elizabeth (D'Angelo) Matalone; his wife, Margaret (Evans) Matalone, who passed in 2022; his son, Joseph Matalone; his brothers, Nicolas Rizzio, Anthony Rizzio, Joseph Matalone, Peter Matalone, Samuel Matalone, Angelo Matalone and Frank Matalone; and his sisters, Deka DeFrank, Philomena Arsena and Frances Garcia.

Michael F. Matalone's life was marked by dedication, community spirit, and heartfelt relationships. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity and devotion that will be remembered with respect and affection by all whose lives he touched.

Service: A funeral service to honor Michael's life will be held on Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m. from the Bruce A. Nalesnik Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 57 W. Center St., Nesquehoning. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Michael's life during a visitation at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Nesquehoning PA.
