Michael Mazey

Michael Mazey, 76, of Crawfordville, passed away July 24, 2025 at his home.
Mike Mazey was born in Los Angeles, California. During his time in junior high school, his greatest joy was volunteering to build fire walls in the mountains of California to prevent the spread of wildfire. After high school he continued to serve his country and community by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. Stationed at Camp Pendleton and achieving the rank of sergeant, Mike specialized in Avionics Electrical Maintenance. He provided highly technical electrical maintenance for all Marine jets which often required flying to bases across the country to perform this service.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, his technical expertise translated into HVAC maintenance and appliance repair. He started his own company in West Covina, California. During this time, he married and had twin sons, Kevin and Scott Mazey.
Mike separated and moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he met his second wife, Renee Michele-Sasson. When Renee was accepted in the Florida State University Graduate program, Mike and Renee moved to Tallahassee. He worked as a repair technician for OPEX where he also wrote algorithms and programs providing solutions for document and mail automation machines.
Mike and Renee moved to Crawfordville in 2002 where he built their home in River Plantation Estates. He retired in 2019 from OPEX Corp. His last years were spent renovating their home and upgrading all the mechanical systems.
Mike is survived by his wife, Renee Michele-Sasson and sons, Kevin and Scott Mazey.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Deborah Smith and Marsha Mazey, his half-brother, James, and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 16th at Christ Church Anglican, 3383 Coastal Hwy., Crawfordville, FL 32327. A reception and luncheon will immediately follow the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
