It is with deep sadness that the family members of Michael "Mac" McCann announce his passing on July 25, 2025.

He was born on September 1, 1961, the son of Frances (Murray) and Edward McCann in Utica, New York.

In 1968 the family moved to Framingham, Massachusetts where Michael attended Saint Stephen's and Saint Bridget's Schools and graduated from Marian High School in 1980. He went on to attend the Massachusetts Police Academy, graduating with the Class of 1984 and served as a member of the Framingham Police Department for 33 years.

Michael enjoyed working with young people and was particularly proud of his involvement with the Middlesex Sheriff's Office Youth Public Safety Academy. He was instrumental in having this initiative implemented in Framingham and it has continued due to his dedication to the project.

He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Framingham Police Pelham Substation where he served as Team Lead for many of his later years and had maintained long lasting friendships from his time there. This will be the future location of the Michael S McCann Memorial Square and Garden.

During his years of service, Michael was the recipient of many commendations and life-saver awards. One of particular prestige was the American Legion Medal of Valor Award, of which he was extremely proud.

In his free time, Michael enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, (he was very active with PAL - the Police Athletic League Fishing Derby) watching and following the accomplishments of his favorite New England teams, (especially his beloved Boston Bruins) and working on his many wood projects. Carpentry was one of his passions, and he had a natural ability to create. His treasured pieces will continue to adorn the homes of family and friends for generations to come.

Michael leaves behind his wife, Cathy Dunn McCann, his stepsons Alex and Sean, his daughters, Chantina, Siobhon, and Allana and their grandchildren, Clare, Charlotte, and Ivan. He also leaves his brothers, Brian McCann, and his wife, Kathy, Dennis McCann, and his sisters: Maureen Carney and her husband, Mike, Pat Burke, Erin Hanley Barbieri, and her husband Tom, Kathleen, Colleen Gazard and her husband Joe and Courtney Collins and her husband Chuck. He also leaves his Uncle Jim McCann of Loomis, California, 30 nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and friends and his brothers and sisters of the Framingham Police Department. He was predeceased by his father, mother, and his brother-in-law, Patrick Hanley.

It has been said that "There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship" and Michael was blessed with some of the dearest friends. Words cannot express our deep gratitude to Mark Knapp, Peter Galvani, Chris Murtagh, Mike Siaba, and last, but certainly not least, his brother-in-law Chuck Collins, each and every one, loyal and true to the very end. We simply cannot thank them enough.

Finally, we thank the Oncology Team of Dana Farber at Milford Hospital for their unwavering support throughout his illness.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Michael by gathering for visiting hours in the Norton, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 53 Beech Street, Framingham on Sunday, August 3rd from 3-7PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Stephen Church, 251 Concord St. Framingham on Monday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be private.

Shortly before Mac's passing he and his brother officer Mike Siaba visited the Pelham location for the last time. Following this visit, in his final days, Mac's friends and family planned the Memorial Garden as a place of peace, reflection and remembrance.
Approval for the plan has been received from both the City of Framingham and the entity that owns the property.

In lieu of flowers, please help us in honoring Mac who had a lasting impact on all who knew him. Construction of the project will be financed with private donations.
