Michael Brian McCarthy, 82, better known as Farfar, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024. He was born in Syracuse, NY to Bernice and Edward McCarthy. Michael was a resident of Duxbury for the last 40 years. A proud graduate of Don Bosco Preparatory High School, Ramsey, NJ. Michael made history as the first quarterback during the school's inaugural season. His other passion was lacrosse, which continued throughout his college career. He earned a Bachelor's in Marketing from Nichols College, paving the way for a successful career. Additionally, he served in the Marines Corps, attaining the rank of Second Lieutenant during his time at Nichols College.
After exploring various roles in advertising sales, Michael took the helm of his family business, where he was known for his unwavering dedication, hard work, and commitment to the community he cherished.
Those who knew Michael appreciated his quiet demeanor, but they also enjoyed his sharp, sarcastic sense of humor that could light up any person's day. A passionate sports enthusiast, Michael loved lacrosse and football, embodying the values of teamwork, toughness, and perseverance. He relished sharing these passions with family and friends, fostering a sense of camaraderie that extended far beyond the field. His Giants and Yankees always had a great fan following their ups and downs. Michael was also friends with Bill W. for the last 30 years.
Michael is survived by his beloved children, Kaitlyn Shoemaker, and her husband James Shoemaker Jr. of Fort Mill, SC; and Kyle McCarthy and his wife, Kaitlyn McCarthy of Scituate, MA. As well as his friend and ex-wife, Marsha Golla-McCarthy of Duxbury, MA. He will be dearly missed by his five cherished grandchildren, Reese McCarthy, Emmett McCarthy, Weston McCarthy, Harper Shoemaker, and James "Tripp" Shoemaker III. His sister, Paula Kennedy, and husband, Richard of Wake Forest, NC; niece, Pamela Kennedy, and her wife, Deborah Jordan, of Raleigh, NC.
Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM on October 12th at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth, MA, followed by a short ceremony to celebrate the remarkable man he was. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Duxbury Booster Club,
