Michael “Mike” Croft McDonough passed away on January 9, 2025, at Abington Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife and the love of his life, Debra J. (nee Moll), with whom he shared a bond that served as a shining example of devotion and partnership. Together, they built a family filled with pride and joy. Mike was the proud father of Kyle (married to Veronica) and Emily (married to Tim Baumgartner), and the cherished grandfather of Oliver, Mae, Cynthia, and Fiona, who were the light of his life.
He is also survived by his mother, Martha “Molly” Croft McDonough, his siblings Kevin (married to Patty) and Kathy, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Mike was predeceased by his father, Joseph McDonough.
Mike’s professional life was defined by his passion for teaching and community service. An educator at heart, he made an indelible mark as a teacher, a director for the YMCA, and the advancement director for Maternity BVM School. At Maternity BVM, he initially joined to write grants and support advancement but quickly became integral to the school’s heartbeat. With his ever-present smile and willingness to go above and beyond, Mike became a beloved figure in the school community.
Sports played a central role in Mike’s life. Whether coaching Emily on the basketball court or cheering Kyle from the soccer sidelines, Mike found joy in every moment of the game. He also served as a referee and umpire, bringing his love of sports to countless others. Music and film were also lifelong passions. He could often be found re-watching “The Godfather” or immersing himself in the sounds of The Band, his favorite group.
Mike’s commitment to service extended beyond his professional endeavors. As a dedicated member of the Willow Grove Moose Lodge, he held many leadership roles, including Governor, embodying the spirit of community and fellowship.
Above all, Mike’s true legacy is the love he shared with Debra. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect, a partnership that stood as a beacon for their family. Debra and Mike were each other’s light, armor, and unwavering support, a love story that will live on in the hearts of their children and grandchildren.
Mike’s kindness, humor, and unshakable faith in the goodness of people will be deeply missed by all who knew him. While his absence leaves a profound void, his spirit and the lessons he imparted will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have shared in his remarkable life.
