John "Jack" M. McNeill

John M. (Jack) McNeill, age 82, journeyed to heaven on June 22, 2025 at the Immaculate Mary Center in Northeast Philadelphia. He was predeceased by his father, John McNeill, mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Bill Weiss, brother Tom, stepsister Terri, and aunts and uncles. He also suffered the loss of his close friend, Jimmy Guckin, just a few months ago, as well as the passing of his dear cousin, Joe Kleidon, just a couple of weeks ago. He is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, including the Weirs, Canneys, Kulps, Kleidons, Griffins and Foremans, special family friend Pat, sister-in-law Lyn, stepbrother Bill (Ann), and stepsister Joanne (Ken). 

Jack served the community through the Knights of Columbus as a Grand Knight. His Irish heritage was a particular point of pride for him, and he attended Cardinal Dougherty High School. He loved his family and the time spent with them, and he cherished every kindness extended to him. After retiring, he was caregiver for his mom at home until her passing. He remained a man of faith throughout his life, and he and Dorothy were devoted members of Holy Innocents Church for decades. While at IMC, attending their Mass was a highlight of his day.

Jack was a true Philly boy and loved all things sports--Phils, Birds, Flyers—he could talk for hours about them all and recalled details only true fans would know. We hope Jack is enjoying a cold Schmidt’s and a burger and is watching the Phillies battle for first place from his lofty perch. He was appreciative of those packages with Phillies and Eagles swag (and chocolates!) from Annie, along with the cards, calls and visits from all. Jack lived life humbly and selflessly and took delight in the little things of life. Jack could be quite a character—we will miss his sly grin and the twinkle in his eye. That twinkle and his gregarious nature won him the hearts of several ladies at IMC. He had a phenomenal memory and could recite the phone numbers of his 20 closest friends and relations well into his 70s. How many of us can remember more than our own? Jack loved animals and would have adopted all the stray cats in Juniata Park if he could have. He and Dorothy slathered attention on their beloved Holly I and Holly II as well as numerous other pets over the decades. 

After we lost Terri over 40 years ago, conversations always ended with “I love you”; and so we are not ending with a good-bye, but rather with “love you, Jack.” We are grateful that Margy and Jimmy were able to tell Jack that he was loved only a few short hours before he passed away. Jack was a delight to be with and such a good and kind-hearted soul. He will be very much missed. The family is grateful for the stability and care provided by the healthcare team at IMC over the last eight years.

Relatives and friends are invited on Monday, June 30, 2025, with 10:00 AM Visitation followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass, to Holy Innocents Church, 1337 E. Hunting Park Avenue (corner of L Street and E. Hunting Park Avenue), Philadelphia, PA 19124. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 5201 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, PA 19020.

In keeping with the anticipated weather and Jack’s personality, casual, colorful attire is encouraged. No flowers, please. If desired, donations to an animal rescue or charity of your choice.
