Michael E. McLaughlin, a dedicated FDNY fireman of 30 years, passed away on July 20, 2024, in West Babylon, NY. He was born on May 27, 1939, New York, NY and was a long-time resident of Deer Park, NY. Throughout his life, Michael was known for his unwavering commitment to serving his community and fearlessly protecting the lives of others at the “BE PROUD” Ladder Company 42, Prospect Avenue, South Bronx.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of bravery and selflessness. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rose McLaughlin. He will be deeply missed by his son Michael (Angela) and daughter Victoria (Ernest) Matacotta. Michael also leaves behind grandchildren Michael R. and his wife Nanine, John P. and his wife Katie, Leann and her husband Shawn, Anthony and his wife Isabella, and Christina, along with great-grandchildren Finley, Michael, Talia, Rory, Mara, Mack, and Faela. Michael is now reunited with his parents Owen and Mary McLaughlin in eternal peace.
A visitation to honor and remember the remarkable life of Michael E. McLaughlin will be held on Wednesday, July 24th at Mangano Family Funeral Home in Deer Park, NY. The visitation will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Sts. Cyril and Methodious RC Church on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 10:15am. Following the mass, family and friends will proceed to Saint Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY, where Michael will be laid to rest.
Michael's dedication to public service and his devotion to his family will forever be remembered. His kindness and courage have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy lives on through those he loved and inspired.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Michael's name to Tunnels to Towers Foundation: t2t.org
