It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Vincent McLaughlin who peacefully passed away at the age of 94 on Friday, March 6, 2026. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy Lee (Whitney) McLaughlin of 72 years.
Born on June 10, 1931, in Providence, RI, Bob was the son of the late Richard A. and Ruth (Butterworth) McLaughlin. Bob graduated in 1950 from LaSalle Academy and attended the University of RI. He served as a Navy-Airman in the Korean War and then for 35 years he was employed as a Process Photographer at the Providence Journal and owner of West View Builders in South Kingstown.
He was a life-long member of both the BPO 1899 Elks and American Legion Post 39. Bob enjoyed skiing and playing a good card game, especially High Low Jack. He also spent many years of laughing and savoring friendships at the Green Hill Beach Club.
In retirement, Bob and Nancy, "his girl," cherished their time traveling together. He loved spending holidays surrounded by his family, creating lasting memories and traditions that will be treasured for generations to come. A man of strength, strong will, and moral values, Bob will be remembered for his kindness, steady presence and deep love for his family. His warmth, resilience, humor and unwavering devotion to his family is his lasting legacy.
Bob leaves behind his loving children, LeeAnn Hooper (Mark), Robert W. McLaughlin, Susan McCabe (the late James), and Laurie Ramaker (Sam), he loved and received so much joy from his 11 cherished grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his sisters Hope Coleman, Ruth Clegg and brother Richard A. McLaughlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 9 AM in St. James Chapel, Charlestown, R.I. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours will be Friday, March 13, 2026 from 5 to 7 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield.
