McLoud, Officer Michael D. Officer Michael D. McLoud, age 64, of Bloomington, passed away January 29, 2025. Survived by his parents, Dennis and Patricia McLoud; brother, Fr. Steven McLoud; uncles, Clifford Naser Jr., Kenneth Naser and Kevin Naser. Preceded in death by grandparents, Clifford and Kathryn Naser, Margaret and Franz Arndt; uncle, Fr. Ronald Naser; aunt, Judy Naser.
Mike grew up in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended Corpus Christi Grade School and St. Edmond High School. Following high school, he attended Mankato State University where he studied Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement.
In June 1983, Officer Mike McLoud (Ret.), Badge #210, began his distinguished law enforcement career with the Faribault Police Department. Over the course of his tenure, Mike quickly earned a reputation for his unwavering dedication, professionalism, and deep commitment to his community. His exceptional service led to his promotion from Officer to Corporal, and ultimately to Sergeant, where he continued to lead by example.
In July 1997, Mike transitioned to the Bloomington Police Department (BPD), where he would spend most of his career, primarily serving in the Patrol Bureau. At BPD, Mike's leadership was instrumental in shaping the department's culture of excellence. He mentored and trained countless officers, instilling in them a strong work ethic and a deep sense of professionalism.
One of Mike's most significant contributions was the establishment of the BPD Honor Guard in 2006. Proudly serving as a member of the BPD Honor Guard until his retirement, Mike embodied the core values of the Honor Guard - integrity, respect, and service.
Throughout his career at BPD, Mike's exemplary service was recognized with numerous honors, including the Medal of Commendation, the Medal of Honor, and the prestigious Officer of the Year Award in 2012. These accolades were a testament to his steadfast commitment to law enforcement and his community.
Beyond his duties at BPD, Mike also served as a member of the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA) Honor Guard as an Original Sixteen member from 1991 until 2012, where he held positions of Memorial Guard, Honor Guard Camp Instructor, and retired as the Lieutenant of the Colors Detail, further extending his legacy of service and dedication. One of Mike's career highlights was joining the team as they began training with the Old Guard of the Army at Arlington Cemetery and laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
After 29 years of devoted service to law enforcement, Mike retired from the Bloomington Police Department in 2012. Yet, his dedication to his colleagues and the law enforcement community never waned. In retirement, Mike continued to support LEMA for several more years as a board member, ensuring that the families and colleagues of fallen officers remained honored and cared for.
He was an active member of the Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis. The three most important things to Mike were, Faith, Family and Service. He was a loving and devoted son and brother. He will be deeply missed.
