Michael Wayne Medlin, a spirited and loving man known for his infectious humor and adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 14, 2026, in Eau Claire, Michigan. Born on April 25, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Dewain E. and Carmella A. (Fedele) Medlin, Michael's journey through life was one marked by joy, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
Michael's early years in Chicago laid the foundation for a life filled with laughter and love. After graduating high school, he dedicated himself to a career in road construction, where his strong work ethic and friendly demeanor were appreciated by all who worked alongside him. Despite his busy career, Michael found time to honorably serve his country in the U.S. Army, receiving a discharge in 1977, a testament to his patriotism and sense of duty.
On a bright summer day in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 9, 2005, Michael's heart led him to marry Susan M. (Boganwright) Hysell, a union that blended two families and expanded the circle of love, she survives.
He was preceded in death by a son, Chad Medlin and a brother, LeRoy Medlin. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michael (Heather) Medlin, Tiffany and Kortney Hysell and Thomas Clark, a daughter-in-law, Austin Medlin, and his legacy lives on through his many cherished grandchildren. Michael was a beloved brother to John (Jackie) Medlin, Tony (Ruth) Medlin, Sheriee (David) Davis, Mark (Nina) Medlin, and Dewain (Jackie) Medlin. His memory will be treasured by his nieces, nephews, and the countless lives he has touched with his humor and warmth.
Michael had a passion for the great outdoors, often found fishing, hunting, camping, canoeing, or leading the charge at family cookouts. His love for roaring bonfires, 4-wheeling, and snowmobiling brought adventure and excitement to those around him. Music was another of Michael's loves, particularly the classic rock of the '70s. His singing and dancing were the highlight of many gatherings, earning him the reputation of being the life of the party.
Those who knew Michael would describe him as funny, loving, and adventurous. His ability to find humor in the everyday, his warm and loving nature, and his readiness to embark on a new adventure at a moment's notice left an indelible mark on his family and friends.
A service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held at Bowerman Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Eau Claire on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 12:00p.m. with a time of visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m.
