Michael Anthony Mendiola
April 28, 1982 – September 6, 2026
Michael Anthony Mendiola, 43, of Brownstown, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 6, 2026. A man of service, family, and generosity, Michael lived his life with a steadfast devotion to others. He was the kind of person who would give without hesitation, love without condition, and find joy in lifting those around him. His presence was a light to many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the blessing of knowing him.
Michael was born on April 28, 1982, in Lompoc, California. From the very beginning, he was a bright light in the lives of his family. He grew up in
Oscoda, Michigan, where he graduated from Oscoda High School with honors. Driven by curiosity and determination, Michael went on to further his education, earning an associate's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, an accomplishment that reflected both his intelligence and his passion for aviation.
Michael proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran. His years in the Navy shaped not only his skills but also the very core of who he was. The values of loyalty, discipline, honor, and perseverance that he carried through his service became guiding principles throughout his life. Michael's time in the military deepened his resilience, his work ethic, and his dedication to others. These qualities shone brightly in the years after his service, as he transitioned into civilian life while continuing to live by those same standards.
After the Navy, Michael built a career as an avionics electrician with USA JET. In his work, he brought the same sense of responsibility, precision, and pride that he had shown in uniform. His colleagues respected him for his dedication, reliability, and willingness to always go the extra mile. Michael's commitment to excellence and to the people around him was a testament to the way he approached every part of his life.
Beyond his career and service, Michael was defined by his deep love for his family. His greatest joy was being a father to his beloved daughter, Ava Mendiola, who was truly the center of his world. Every moment with Ava filled him with pride and purpose. He delighted in watching her grow, supporting her dreams, and being her biggest source of love and encouragement. She was his heart, his reason, and his legacy.
Michael also shared a special and unbreakable bond with his sister, Christina Aller, and with his nieces, Chelsee, Haylee, and Emilee Aller. He was not just an uncle, but a mentor, a protector, and a source of laughter and comfort in their lives. His presence at family gatherings, his playful spirit, and his steady support made him someone they looked up to with love and admiration.
Michael's passions reflected the vibrant and adventurous spirit he carried through life. He loved playing the guitar-especially his father's guitar-which allowed him to feel close to his dad and express himself through music. He enjoyed cooking and dreamed of opening a Guamanian food stand, blending family traditions with his love of sharing meals and community. He had an adventurous palate, enjoying wine and beer tasting, and he relished traveling, experiencing new states, countries, and cultures that broadened his horizons. And of course, he was always up for watching football, cheering, and enjoying the camaraderie of the game.
He is survived by his daughter, Ava Mendiola, sister, Christina Aller and Nieces, Haylee Green (Aller), Chelsee Aller and Emilee Aller
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Mariano Mendiola and Debra Newlon, and his grandparents, Pat and Carol Newlon. While our hearts ache deeply in his absence, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with them.
Michael will be remembered for his generous heart, his adventurous spirit, his devotion to family, and the way he carried his values of service, loyalty, and love into everything he did. He was a selfless man who would do anything for anyone, and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
