Michael Jerome Merritt

November 1, 1949 – August 5, 2025

Michael Jerome Merritt, of Indian Trail, NC, passed away on August 5, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born in Mecklenburg County, NC, to the late Billy H. Merritt and Easter Lily Merritt. Michael is survived by his loving daughters, Shea Braswell (Steven) and Devon Price (Jamey); his stepchildren, Timothy Biggers and Karyn McAlpin (Matt); and his brother, Steve Merritt (Cathy). He is also survived by grandchildren Jonathan (Emily), Jackson (Miranda), Savanna, Sarah Jayne, Jase, Allen Biggers (Jessica), Haidyn Ramey, and Kaleana Julius-Carroll; great-grandchildren Claire, Kennedy, and Lilith; and his niece Joyce and nephew James. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Janice Wilson Merritt, and is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Ellen B. Merritt.

A proud Vietnam veteran and member of the Indian Trail VFW, Michael lived a life of service and faith. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail for 36 years, where he joyfully taught Sunday School for senior adults and 8th grade boys, attended summer camps, and served on mission trips to Ecuador and Venezuela.

Michael loved the outdoors, his John Deere tractors, and hunting-but most of all, he cherished his family, and his time spent with them.

To honor Michael's patriotic spirit, the family kindly asks that attendees wear red, white, and blue.

In addition to flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Indian Trail VFW, the VA, or Metrolina Christian Academy-organizations that held a special place in Michael's heart.
