Michael "Mick" Messersmith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025, just shy of his 88th birthday. Mick was born on January 11, 1938, the son of Evelyn Semans and Leonard Messersmith. A proud member of the Dunkirk community, he graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1957. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. On a beautiful day, May 2nd, 1965, he married the love of his life, June Fager. Together they built a wonderful life and raised a family. Mick worked for many years as a talented mold maker at Saint Gobain, from which he eventually retired. He was also a member of the Dunkirk Masonic Lodge. Mick's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted children: Andrea (Rick) Crawford, Devon (Maudlyn) Messersmith. His memory will be cherished by his five grandchildren: Caleb Messersmith, Dylan (Molly) Messersmith, Gretchen (Nathan) Brown, Dani Crawford, Katie Crawford. He was thrilled to be a great-grandfather to Hadley Messersmith, who affectionately knew him as Papaw Mickey. Mick is also survived by his two sisters, Becky (Phil) Watson and Linda Shaw, and his two sisters-in-law, Lana Fager and Jama Fager, as well as several special nieces and nephews. Mick was preceded in death by his wife, June; his mother, Evelyn Semans; his father, Leonard Messersmith; his father-in-law, Erwin Grant Fager; his mother-in-law, Helen Fager; his brother, Kim Painter; and his brothers-in-law, Ralph Fager, Grant Fager, and Jim Shaw. The family will have a private memorial and graveside burial at a later date to honor Mick's life. Memorial contributions can be made in Michael's memory to the: Dunkirk Moose Lodge Children's Fund 609 W. Center Street Dunkirk IN, 47336. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries - Dunkirk Chapel.
