Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home & Crematory - Cuyahoga FallsEileen Berube Narraway Bergmann, born October 18, 1942, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, passed away in February 9, 2026. She was the eldest of three daughters of the late Emile and Helen Janvier Berube.
In 1949, her family relocated to Fredonia, New York, to be near her maternal grandparents, Frank and Eva Janvier. Eileen attended St. Joseph Elementary School in Fredonia and Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk, New York.
Following high school, Eileen pursued her passion for nursing at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1963. She began her nursing career at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, working first in the Medical/Surgical Department and later in the Operating Room as an RN Surgical Assistant. After moving to Philadelphia with her first husband, she continued her work in the Operating Room at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 1972, she relocated to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
In the mid-1980s, Eileen returned to school at The University of Akron, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technical Education and a Certificate in Gerontology. While attending the University, she was employed by the Area Agency on Aging/Long Term Care Ombudsman Program. After graduation, she served as Staff Development Director at Rockynol Retirement Community for 18 years, retiring in 2008.
In January 2009, Eileen married Richfield resident Jim Bergmann, a widower she had known for nearly 20 years. Together they spent their retirement years at Portage Lakes, where they purchased and lovingly renovated a lakeside home. Their marriage was filled with love and respect, a union they often described as “made in heaven.” Jim, an accomplished wood craftsman known for constructing hammered dulcimers, shared his passion for music and craftsmanship with Eileen. She photographed and documented his process in a book detailing the creation of his final two dulcimers, which he gifted to his daughter, Tina, an accomplished and widely known dulcimer musician. Jim passed away shortly after their seventh wedding anniversary in 2016.
Eileen was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Cuyahoga Falls. She and Jim served as Eucharistic Ministers until Jim’s health no longer permitted his participation. They were also briefly involved with the Mother of Sorrows Committee. Eileen volunteered with Mobile Meals during two periods of her life. During the earlier years, she often brought along her young son, Jeff, whose favorite Matchbox cars delighted the clients. She also volunteered for a short time at Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Hale Farm.
Eileen found great joy in time spent with her grandchild, Fennel. Together they created and recorded cherished memories in two large photo albums. She loved hiking and biking in the Metro Parks and Cuyahoga Valley National Park and enjoyed many hobbies, including music, reading, gardening, scrapbooking, sewing, decoupage, and knitting. Over the years, she cared for many beloved pets, including several cats and her cherished toy poodle mix, Riley.
Eileen will be remembered for her devotion to family, her compassionate spirit, her love of learning, and the joy she found in serving others.
A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held at 10 AM on February 20, 2026 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Portage Trail Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.
