Michael J. “Mike” Thomson passed away peacefully, at his home, on March 25th, 2025. Mike was born January 2nd, 1950, the 4th of 5 sons born to Vincent and Lorraine Thomson of Oconto Falls, WI. Mike grew up on the family dairy farm which instilled the work ethic that he carried into his business career as the owner of Parish Insurance Agency. Mike’s future in business and sales was evident in October of 1970 when he met Brenda Vandenberg, whom he courted and eventually convinced to marry him on November 9th, 1973. If you were to ask Mike to be honest this would be his “Miracle on Ice”.
Mike started his insurance career in June 1971 with John Hancock Financial. In 1982 he bought Parish Insurance Agency with friends Dan Tomalak and Bob Urban. The business grew with the help of many colleagues through the years and Mike was always appreciative of those who helped make the business a success. Those many people know who they are, and Mike and his family are forever grateful for their contributions.
Mike and Brenda went on to have 3 relatively average children Joette (Charlie) Duffy, Shaun (Erin) Thomson, A.J. (Holly) Thomson along with 9 exceptional grandchildren: Chase, Tatum, and Jadin Duffy; Evelyn and Benjamin Thomson; Jack, Lucy, Tessa, and Ellie Thomson.
Mike was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed golfing with his buddies any chance he could. He really loved the mean-spirited banter that only true friends can exchange during rounds of golf. Mike loved the beach and frequented Orange Beach, AL, where he had a second home, as much as possible. Some of Mike’s fondest memories were the time spent with family and friends relaxing on the beach over the years. He was an avid Packer fan, growing up in the glory days of the 1960s Packers, and will be remembered yelling at the tv as though it had an impact on the outcome. Mike will be remembered as a thoughtful, loving husband, father, friend, and papa, as he was known to his 9 beloved grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his wife, Brenda, children, and grandchildren listed above. He is also survived by his brothers Greg (Mary) and Dan (Harriet) Thomson, sisters-in-law, Nancy and Pam (Randy) Voeks, brothers-in-law, David Vandenberg and Rick Vandenberg, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Lorraine Thomson, parents-in-law Harvey and Barb Vandenberg, and brothers Doug (Jean) and Roy Thomson.
Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (2771 Oakwood Dr Green Bay, WI) on Friday, April 4th from 9 AM- 11 AM with Mass to follow at 11 AM.
