Kansas City, Missouri - Michael Watson Miles, 73, of Fairway, died on July 12, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospice House. The son of George and Doris Miles, he grew up in Kansas City and as a child was a champion age group swimmer. He attended Pembroke â€" Country Day School, where he played football and basketball. He then went to Washington University in St. Louis, pledged the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and played on the football team. After two years of college, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He returned to the USA and completed his degree at the University of Kansas. While in Lawrence he met Janete, his devoted wife of 47 years. After they were married, they moved to Brazil for 8 years; there, Mike learned Portuguese by reading the Bible. He was well read and could hold his own in any discussion on faith, science or politics. He loved the family cabin in Minnesota and particularly enjoyed fishing. He was a wonderful husband and father, and found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George, and a son, Stephen Jayme Miles. He is survived by Janete, son David (Amanda) daughter Rebecca, grandchildren Ethan, Kyle and Mia, and siblings John, Doris Darr, and Mary DeSaegher. Services will be private.
