Michael C. Motta, 65, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Kent Hospital. Born on January 30, 1961, in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of Claudette (Richard) Porter and the late Dennis R. Motta, Sr.

Michael was a talented mechanical engineer who devoted over 40 years to his craft at Sandberg Machine. He had a natural gift for both engineering and art, combining technical skill with creativity in a way that reflected his thoughtful and inventive spirit.

He was a graduate of West Warwick High School and earned a commercial art certification through Warwick VOTECH. He continued his education with an AutoCAD certification from the New England Institute of Technology and attended Hall Institute of Technology in Pawtucket, where he received the Outstanding Student Award for June-July 1981. Michael also earned a national award for a detailed blueprint of a 1974 Vega engine, which he had completely disassembled and analyzed. His passion for learning continued throughout his life, taking additional engineering courses through the University of Rhode Island and the Community College of Rhode Island.

Besides his mother Claudette Porter, he is survived by his three children, Jill Motta, Miranda Martin and her husband Jeremie Martin, and Mitchell Motta and his partner Ashley Tortolani; his four beloved grandchildren, Jason Bender, Jacob Motta, Carter Martin, and Riley Martin; and his three siblings, Dennis R. Motta, Jr. and his wife Carol Motta, Brian S. Motta, and Dawn Marie Motta.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held this summer. Remembrances may be shared at carpenterjenks.com.
