Michael “Mike” Mudd of Bowie, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on March 13, 1957 in Hyattsville, Maryland, Mike lived a full and vibrant life surrounded by family, friends and his many passions.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lorie Mudd, who he said numerous times that he wanted to nominate for Sainthood and told everyone he could that he worshipped the ground she walked on. He is also survived by his two daughters, Angela Mayo (Kevin Mayo) and Tracy Mudd (Matthew Noll). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to his three grandsons: Blake, Rylan and Bryce, who brought him endless joy and laughter.
Mike was a natural coach and mentor, dedicating many years to coaching his daughters in basketball and serving the community through the Bowie Boys and Girls Club. His love of sports was matched only by his passion for racing. A lifelong Richard Petty fan, Mike found great joy in watching NASCAR races and spending weekends at Hagerstown Speedway, where he formed deep and lasting friendships.
He was proud to be a DeMatha Stag and often shared stories of the fun and mischief he got into during his time there. Those who knew Mike will remember his larger-than-life personality, sense of humor, and his love of storytelling. He lived life on his own terms- with grit, heart and a deep love for his family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the American Lung Association. The family asks that you honor Mike by taking a moment to enjoy a race, shoot hoops with your kids, or simply cruise with the windows down- just as he would do in his hot rod. Mike's legacy of love, laughter and loyalty will live on in all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
