It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Robert "Moe" Murphy of Bluemont, Virginia, who went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2025.
Moe was born on December 16, 1958, in
Morgantown, West Virginia. He was a graduate of Loudoun County High School, Class of 1977. He attended Northern Virginia Community College and later earned an Advanced Biblical Studies Diploma from Liberty University.
Known to many simply as "Moe," he lived a life defined by service, dedication, and a deep commitment to others. He devoted countless hours to coaching youth sports, volunteering throughout his community, and coaching his own children's teams. Moe joined the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company in 1975, where he served faithfully as a firefighter and chaplain until the early 1990s, before relocating to Bluemont. During his time with Leesburg Fire, he was widely known for his beloved role as "Mr. Moe" during Fire Prevention Week, helping educate the public about fire safety. Most recently, Moe served as an administrative member of the Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire Company.
Early in his career, Moe worked as a dispatcher for the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office and was also employed by Virginia Power. He retired in December 2023 after 29 years of dedicated service with Loudoun County's Information Technology Department. In addition, he served for 11 years with Loudoun County Public Schools in the Safety and Security Department, continuing his lifelong commitment to protecting and supporting his community.
An avid golfer and devoted sports fan, Moe founded Clarke County Sports, providing extensive coverage of local high schools, area colleges, and the Washington Redskins. He was a constant presence at Clarke County High School sporting events, rarely missing a game, and was a steadfast supporter of student-athletes. His dedication to and love for Clarke County were truly unmatched. Moe is remembered as a legend, a great friend, and a true public servant whose selfless actions inspired and enriched more lives than we will ever know.
Moe is survived by his sons, Joseph Murphy (Brittany), Matthew Murphy, and James Murphy; his brothers, Kevin Murphy (Brenda) and Patrick Murphy; and his beloved grandchildren, Christian Murphy, Roman Murphy, Teagan Murphy, and Elizabeth Murphy, who brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Geraldine Murphy.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Moe was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his many family members and friends.
