Michael Edward Nelson, 62, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at his residence in Verona.
He was born on March 10, 1963, in Staunton, to the late Floyd “Eddie” Edward and Opal Mae Childress Nelson.
Michael proudly served his country for fourteen years in the Army National Guard.
He was most at home outdoors or on the move and was the owner and operator of Outdoor Cleaning Solutions, a landscaping and snow removal company. He loved fishing and carried a lifelong appreciation for motorcycles. He was a fan of Chevy trucks and loved Hot Wheels.
A dedicated supporter of athletics, Michael gave back to his community for more than twenty-five years as a coach, referee, and umpire in football, basketball, and baseball.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Alexandria Ann Washington Nelson; his children, Michael Lee Nelson, Sharvonne Nelson Mobley and her husband, James, Ceceila Ineze Nelson, Cayla Nelson Bowden, and many other bonus children; seven grandchildren, Aysia, Jaylen, Alaya, Liam, Landon, Londynn, and Kayson; his two great-grandchildren, Saiori and Salem; his brother, Brian Edwin Nelson and his wife, Jennifer; his sister, Veronica Michelle Nelson; his aunts, Vanessa and Jacqueline Childress; his uncles, Coleman Childress, and James and Samuel Nelson; numerous nephews and nieces, and many cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his aunts, Rosetta Mae Nelson Williams, Sarah Thomas, and Carolyn Marie Childress; and his uncles, Earl Nelson and Milton Childress.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with Pastor Mark Payne officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.
