Michael J Norris

Michael Norris of St. Johns, Michigan died peacefully in his sleep on his 72 birthday, June 18, 2023. Michael is a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School (1970), Flint Institute of Barbering (1971) and Lansing Community College (1977) where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. He worked as a police officer in Webberville, MI before transferring to the Lansing Police Department. He retired with the rank of Sergeant after 25 years of service. His greatest joy while serving the city of Lansing was being Commander and Chief of the Special Tactics and Rescue Team (START). Michael enjoyed a secondary career as a barber in the Lansing area, as well. In 2005-2006, Mike worked as an International Police Advisor in Bagdad, Iraq with the Special Advanced Training Unit. He enjoyed fishing, camping, reading, and playing poker with his longtime friends.
Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda, their children, Candyce Tjarks of Lansing, MI, Robert (Shelly) Norris of Alexandra, VA, and Rebecca (Patrick) Zambrano of Murfreesboro, TN. He cherished his 5 grandchildren, Ryan, William, Evelyn, Harper, and Lucy who were a joy in his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda (Kirk) Warner of Jackson, MI and Linda (Andy) Beck of Eaton Rapids, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert and Gertrude (Gemalsky) Norris.
The Norris family is being served by Skinner Funeral Home of Lansing, MI. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, MI on Saturday, July 15 at 11:00am. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon in Mike's honor will be held at the St. John's Knight's of Columbus Hall immediately following the service.
