M. Janet Hunter-Moore, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025. She was born on November 28, 1947, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to the late John J. and Annie Laura (Smith) Hunter.
From an early age, Janet stood out for her energy, creativity, and dedication. As a student, she proudly served as a Drum Majorette and participated in competitive dance, showcasing the same determination and spirit that would guide her throughout life.
After graduating, Janet earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Michigan State University and later received her MBA in Finance at Cornell University-an impressive academic journey that reflected her passion for helping others and her sharp financial acumen. She built a distinguished career in public service, retiring after many years as a financial professional with the State of Michigan. Her tenure culminated in her role as Executive Director of the Michigan Municipal Bond Authority, where she helped shape fiscal policy and support public infrastructure projects across the state.
Janet was a lifelong learner and an avid reader, always with a book in hand. She also found great joy in traveling. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her warmth, intellect, and unwavering strength.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Dafina Moore and Tatiana Thomas. Siblings,
Joan Collins, Sandra Miller, Kathy Hunter-Maybin, Donna Hunter-Jones, Steven Hunter, Martin Hunter; her brother Larry's wife, Judith Lisansky; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Larry, John, Robert (Evelyn), Roy, David, Kenneth, and Terri Hunter.
