Melody Kemper Obituary

Of Cheboygan, MI, and formerly of Eaton Rapids, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the age of 70.
Melody was born on November 13, 1954, in Eaton Rapids, MI, the daughter of Clayton and Roxane (Waldron) Gunn. She grew up in Eaton Rapids and graduated with the Class of 1972. Melody devoted her life to working in retail, beginning with 20 years at Feldpausch in Eaton Rapids, later working at Walmart in Charlotte, and ultimately spending the past 17 years running Melody's Lane in Cheboygan with her husband. Together they created a welcoming space where they sold books and "Made in Michigan" items.
A talented seamstress, Melody lovingly crafted thousands of memory bears, many of which found their way into the hands and hearts of her customers. She was deeply engaged in her community, giving countless hours to 4-H and county fairs where she shared her skills in cake decorating, food judging, and mentoring youth with their projects. Melody also had a passion for collecting and took joy in filling her home with her cherished dolls and elephants-always with their trunks up for good luck.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Arthur Kemper; and brother-in-law, Robert Kemper.
Melody leaves behind her husband of 27 years, Kevin Kemper; son, Matthew (Tara) Kemper; mother-in-law, Christine Kemper; siblings, Ed (Brenda) Gunn, Pat (Lisa Ridgeway) Gunn, and Wilda Gunn; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Brian (Brenda) Kemper, Belynda Williams, Cyrene (Rocky) Irelan, Victoria (Justin) Block, Ryan Kemper, and Alex (MJ) Lopez; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Robbins United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
