Michael A. Nyquist, known affectionately to friends and family as Mike, unexpectedly passed away on July 23, 2025, in Chicago, IL, at the age of 64. Born in Muskegon, MI, on January 14, 1961, to Robert and Bonnie Nyquist. Mike brought joy and passion into every facet of his life, leaving a legacy of accomplishment and warm memories.

Mike's early education took place at Duck Creek Elementary, where his love for learning and natural leadership first became evident. He carried these traits with him to North Muskegon High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically, serving as Senior Class President and earning Salutatorian honors. His prowess on the wrestling mat was a testament to his discipline and determination.

Mike's life path after high school was interrupted for a couple of years as he recovered from significant injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident shortly after his high school graduation. His courage and perseverance, already well developed, carried him through the hardships he experienced during this time. All that were near him in support were in awe of his positive attitude and unrelenting focus on his rehabilitation goals.

Mike's academic journey continued at Northwestern University, where he expanded his horizons and prepared for a future that would blend his intellectual abilities with his creative talents. His years at Northwestern were not only marked by scholarly achievements but also by the relationships he built and the lives he touched.

Professionally, Mike dedicated several years to Northwestern University Medical School, contributing to the school's medical publications. His work on the magazine layout and occasional writing for Ward Rounds showcased his meticulous eye for design and his way with words. Later, as an ASCO representative for Granville Beach condominiums, Mike's technical skills came to the fore. He served diligently on the ASCO board, offering his expertise as a webmaster and providing invaluable support for ZOOM meetings and other IT functions.

Beyond his professional life, Mike was a man of many interests, each pursued with the same fervor he brought to his career. A voracious reader and gifted writer, he found solace and inspiration in the written word. Mike's love for music led him to the vibrant Chicago band scene, where he was a familiar face. His talent for live sound mixing made him a cherished collaborator among local bands, and his friendships with the musicians he supported were a source of great joy and pride.

Website publishing was another of Mike's passions. He had an uncanny ability to blend technology with creativity, producing content that was both engaging and informative. His contributions to the online world were not only technical but also artistic, reflecting his multifaceted personality.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Robert, but his spirit is carried on by his loving mother, Bonnie (Nyquist) Duke, brothers Rob (Cami) and Dwane, nephew Derek, and niece Kayla. His family remembers him for his unconditional love along with an in depth and empathetic communication style.

The world has lost a man of great intellect, creativity, and kindness. Mike Nyquist's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the many lives he touched with his generosity and spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him, whether in the classrooms of his youth, the corridors of academia, or the lively venues of Chicago's music scene.

Family and friends plan private memorial celebrations of a life shared.
