Obituary of Michael P. O'Brien
Michael P. O'Brien, 78, passed away on February 21, 2023. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on April 22, 1944, to Richard and Katherine (Rupinski) O'Brien. Michael graduated from Johnathon Dayton Region High School in 1962. He attended Newark College of Engineering and received his bachelor's degree in 1966 and his MBA from Monmouth University in 1980. He married his late wife Karen in 1966. Michael worked as a chemical engineer for 40 years, until retiring in 2004. He and Karen moved to Venice, FL in 2006.
Michael was an active member in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of NOVA, the Lions, the Rotary Club and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, taxes for seniors, the BackPack program, as well as many other organizations. Michael was an avid gardener and was in the Orchid Club, winning many awards with his late wife. He loved fishing with his brother-in-law and boating. Michael's favourite pass time was spending time with his family.
He is predeceased by his wife W. Karen O'Brien and his parents Richard and Katherine O'Brien.
Michael is survived by his son Eric O'Brien, his daughter Heather and son-in-law Keith Taylor, granddaughters Emma Taylor, Victoria Taylor, Christina Taylor, and Sabrina Taylor, brother-in-law Ronald Scurek, nephews John Scurek and Steven Scurek and their families, and many friends.
A visitation will be held from 3PM-6PM on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Farley Funeral Home in Venice, FL. A mass will be at 10AM Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Venice Memorial Gardens.
