Michael David O'Kelly
February 11, 1952 – April 8, 2025
Michael David O'Kelly, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Graham, WA at the age of 73. Born in Tacoma, WA to his parents, Christopher and Gloria (George) O'Kelly, Mike lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a passion for honoring those who serve.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joanne, and their three boys: Michael Jr., Aaron, and Sean (Shelby), as well as his four grandchildren: Kaelyn, Brooks, Jameson, and Madelyn. He is also survived by his younger brother, Chris, and nephew, Christopher (Heather).
Mike grew up in the Puyallup area, and from a young age, he was a force of nature. At 14, he started working at a gas station, pumping gas and servicing cars. Then at 18, after graduating from Puyallup High School in 1970, Mike founded his own bulldozing and excavation company, O'Kelly's Dozing Service, which he ran with pride and dedication for decades. His tireless work helped shape landscapes across the region, but perhaps none more meaningful than the baseball field he built by hand at his home in Graham for his kids-a place where countless memories were made and his love for his family and community were on full display. Mike and Joanne have hosted the annual O'Kelly Family reunion for 33 years here, and for many years lent the baseball field to local youth baseball and sports teams to use for practices and games.
For 20 years, Mike was a proud crew member of the Hamilton Air Race Team at the Reno National Championship Air Races. His involvement in the aviation world reflected his adventurous spirit and commitment to precision and teamwork.
A fierce supporter of veterans, Mike spent years collecting and restoring military vehicles with his family, sharing them at local events and parades to honor those who served. His deep respect for the armed forces and passion for preserving history touched the lives of many and served as a living tribute to the sacrifices of our nation's heroes.
Mike's greatest pride, however, was his family. He was a steadfast presence in their lives-always ready with a helping hand, a warm hug, or a good story. He was the kind of friend who would drop everything to help and the kind of husband, father and grandfather whose love left an indelible mark.
Michael David O'Kelly leaves behind a legacy of strength, generosity, and unwavering love. He will be missed deeply and remembered always by those fortunate enough to know him. Please join us to celebrate Mike's life on Saturday, May 17th, 2025 beginning at 11:30am at Elk Plain Community Church (4115 224th St E, Spanaway, WA 98387).
