Michael Brendan O'Riordan, 45, of Stony Point, passed away on September 10, 2023, surrounded by a lot of love, laughter and music. Mike was diagnosed with stage IV cancer in June 2021. He fought the good fight and will always be remembered for never giving up.
Michael was born on December 15, 1977, in
Brooklyn, New York to Kevin and Helena (Roness) O'Riordan. He and his family were surrounded by extended family, as well as sights, sounds and energy of the city. Michael, his younger sister, and parents moved to Vermont in 1983. Here is where Mike began his lifelong relationship with sports, developed his own character, and attended schools where he made friends, some of whom remained close throughout his life. He learned principles of respect, follow-through, perseverance, teamwork, heart, trust and the power of encouragement. Mike was a very charismatic, kind, protective, and thoughtful person. He built those characters, as Mike's parents provided a loving home for him and his sister, along with five adopted children.
He attended Spaulding High School in Barre, VT and graduated in 1996, where he began his career in marketing. He attended Castleton State College in Vermont, where he continued to play baseball and the position he loved, catcher. Eventually, Mike moved back to New York with his grandparents. He went on to graduate from St. Thomas Aquinas College in 2001, with a Bachelor of Science, the year he met his wife, Erin. He worked in the field of direct marketing for almost twenty years.
He is predeceased by his father, Kevin Patrick O'Riordan in 2014. Michael is survived by the love of his life, his wife Erin, and his two beautiful children; son, Brendan, and daughter, Shea, who he loved unconditionally.
Michael is also survived by his loving mother; Helena, sisters; Elizabeth O'Riordan, Kristen O'Riordan (Jason), Logan Merrill-O'Riordan (Curtis) and brothers; Joseph O'Riordan, Skylar O'Riordan and Heith O'Dell; mother and father-in-law, Larry and Nancy Randt; sister and brother-in-law, Kristin and Arthur Schoedel; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Cassie Randt; and brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Ashley Randt.
Uncle Mike loved all of his nieces and nephews with his whole heart and they loved him just the same; Colby, Allie, Michael, Sofia, James, Jake, Kate, Danny, Levi, Faith, Hope, Briella, Ryan, Riley, Theresa, Vince, Lincoln and Oaklyn and a host of beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
His love of sports was shared and honed by his grandfathers. He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Giants, Rangers, Knicks, and of course Notre Dame. He enjoyed going to games, but also enjoyed watching them around a fire pit with his family and friends. His favorite times were the simple things in life; listening to music, laughing, a family game night, movie nights, dinner with friends and family, watching Brendan's soccer games and Shea's dance recitals.
He was truly one of the best husband, father (his proudest title), son, brother (in-law), uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, and Mike had a heart of gold. He will truly be missed. "To Know Him is to Love Him"
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Brendan and Shea's college fund.
