Michael J. "Mike" Orsi
On Tuesday October 1st surrounded by family and beloved friends, Michael J. "Mike" Orsi passed peacefully after a prolonged battle with ALS. Michael was preceded in death by his adoring mother, Helen. He is survived by his wife, Summer; his children Michael, Mia, and Luca; his father Ray Sr.; siblings Ray Jr. (Diana); Louis; Lisa (Patrick) Manning; Mark (Mary) Orsi; and many nieces and nephews including Shena (husband Chris and daughter Sonni) Lyle; Zachary (wife Mandy and son Alan) Orsi; Tyler (wife Inna and son Alexander) and Nicholas Manning; Jake, Joseph, and Matthew Orsi; and brother-in-law Daniel (Danelle) McKeen and sister-in-law Donna (Greg) Pilon; and in-laws Rod and Diane McKeen. Michael was beloved by all those whose lives he touched whether as a Special Education teacher at Keystone Oaks for the past 27 years where he also was an administrator in the Project Succeed program which helped students who faced difficult life circumstances obtain their diplomas. Or as a football coach at his Alma Mater of Duquesne University, his former high school at Seton-LaSalle Catholic High School, Baldwin Whitehall Middle School, and St. Bernard Catholic grade school. Or as a teammate playing football as a Seton-LaSalle Rebel or as a standout Duquesne Duke where Mike was a member of the first conference championship team after the Dukes elevated the program to Division 1 status. Michael was most proud of his role as father to Michael, Mia, and Luca as he was always involved as coach or supporter with their many activities. Michael's love of life, his passion and his spirit will continue to live through his children. Michael's accomplishments, connections, and impact are too great to mention here but we know that many people will refer to Mike as 'my best friend' as they visit him at his viewing. That is the way Mike made everyone feel - like they were his best friend. The family extends sincere gratitude to all those who so generously supported the Go-FundMe campaign, the many health care professionals who cared for Mike, and, most especially, Fr. Thomas Skamai of the Pittsburgh Oratory who so compassionately and lovingly brought Michael the sacraments and the Eucharist during the last months of Mike's life and helped shepherd Michael to eternal life. Friends and family received on Friday from 1-9 p.m. at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Bernard Church, St. Michael the Archangel Parish on Saturday at 12 Noon (everyone please meet at the church). Interment will be private.
