Michael J. Ottomanelli, 85, of Saddle Brook, passed away on August 16, 2023. After arriving in the United States in 1955 from Toritto Bari, Italy; he lived in Brooklyn, Hoboken, and Jersey City before settling in Saddle Brook in 1992. He was the owner of Ottomanelli's Liquor & Deli in Hoboken. Before retiring in 1984 he was a longshoreman for twenty-eight years and worked for Seatrain in Weehawken. One of Michael's most proud accomplishments was building a vacation home in the Pocono Mountains in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania in 1977 in the development of Towamensing Trails. There he spent many years hunting and gathering all of his family together celebrating his Italian heritage. Michael was so respected that he was presented with the honor of having a street named after his family; Ottomanelli Drive. Michael was a devoted Catholic who attended Church every Sunday. Some of his favorite hobbies were winemaking, coin collecting, gardening and his love of antique cars. Above all, his greatest joy was simply being at home sitting at the dinner table spending time with his family.
Predeceased by his parents Francesco and Carmela, brothers; Onofrio, Stefano, and Rocco, sisters; Marietta and Concetta. Survived by his beloved wife Marian (nee DeMasi) of 66 years of marriage. Devoted father of Carmela Ottomanelli, Theresa Ottomanelli Vargas and Monserrate Jr., Michael Jr. Ottomanelli and wife Linda, Ann Marie Bufi and husband Carmine. Loving grandfather of Michael, Jennifer, Christopher and wife Vanessa, Michael Jr. and wife Kristen, Carmine Jr. and wife Andrea, Anthony, Alexa, Amanda and husband James, Brandon and wife Jacqueline, and great-grandchildren; Michael, Logan, Aubrey, Olivia, James, and Adrianna. Dear brother of Gino Ottomanelli, John Ottomanelli, and Rosalie Cimillo. Cherished uncle to all of his nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may gather for a memorial service at Di Chiara Funeral Home, 300 Main St., Lodi, NJ 07644. Visitation Monday, August 21st, 2023 from 2:00-9:00 PM. Then on to Our Lady of Mt. Virgin R.C. Church in Garfield for a 11:00 AM Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023. Entombment to follow at Fairview Mausoleum in Fairview, NJ.
