Michael Bruce Pogue

Michael Bruce Pogue, of Indian Land, SC, passed on peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, July 1st. Mike was born on September 16, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Burchard and Florence Pogue. Mike married Laura Gene Scarbeck on February 1, 1969 and they celebrated 55 years of loving marriage this year.
Before marrying Laura, Mike joined the U.S. Army in 1964, where he served as an air traffic controller and was then transferred to border control in Germany. After his service, he began a career in sales, as he was a natural entrepreneur and businessman. He started TLC Mortgage in 1984 and worked as a mortgage loan originator for the next forty years. He went the extra mile for all of his clients because he genuinely cared.
Mike was a generous and loving soul who always took the time to think of others and act in service. He lived life to the fullest, drawing energy from bringing people together and encouraging them. He enjoyed supporting organizations in his community of Sun City Carolina Lakes, especially the Veterans Day Golf Tournament and Tennis Club. Always an active person, Mike played softball, tennis, bridge, poker, and hosted parties with his friends, family and neighbors. He was a family man – immensely proud of his wife, children and grandchildren. Whether it was coaching his children's sports teams, attending concerts, sitting on the sidelines of the soccer and lacrosse field, or working lobby hours for Team Pogue, Mike was always the number one fan of all his family's pursuits.
Michael is survived by his wife, Laura, children Jennifer Blau and Jeff Pogue, son-in-law Eric Blau, granddaughters Lorelei, Liesel, and Greta, and his brother, Thomas Pogue.
A Celebration of Life is being planned to honor Mike's memory on July 12th from 4-6pm at Lake House in Sun City Carolina Lakes, Indian Land, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to VFW Post 12136 John P Monahan, 6277 Carolina Commons Dr, Ste 600-369, Indian Land, SC 29707.
