Michael Raines Obituary

Michael Leo Raines, affectionately known as Mike, passed away on January 7, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 63. Born on September 5, 1962, at an Air Force base in the Philippines, Mike was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his warm spirit and unwavering kindness.

Mike spent over two decades as an Assistant Store Manager at Food Lion, where he was known not only for his dedication and hard work but also for his infectious good mood and helpful nature. His colleagues and customers alike appreciated his ability to brighten any room with his positive attitude and genuine smile.

A graduate of York County High School, Mike's athletic prowess earned him a baseball scholarship for college, where he continued to excel in sports. He had a lifelong passion for baseball and football, both playing and watching, and he was an avid fan of all sports. His enthusiasm for the game was matched only by his love for sharing it with others.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents James Raines and Teresita Perigrino Raines. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Pam Raines, and their beloved daughter, Elizabeth Raines. He also leaves behind his brothers, James and Ed Raines, and a host of cousins who will forever remember him as a supportive and loving sibling.

Those who knew Mike will remember him as an overall great guy, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. His legacy of kindness and joy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
