Michael Reed, 73, of Fountain Hill, passed away on June 17 in the comfort of his home. Born on March 2, 1951, and a lifelong resident of the Lehigh Valley, Michael started his career as a rigger at Bethlehem Steel, where he worked from 1969 to 1988. He then continued his education by taking classes at Allentown College to expand his knowledge in computer sciences, an area of special interest to him. He was subsequently hired at Pentamation, where he was promoted through supervisory and managerial positions before taking a job at St. Luke's Hospital, where he worked as the supervisor of Data Center Operations until his retirement in 2010.
Michael grew up with an adventurous streak and an appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying travel, camping, and motorcycles. His more grounded side was partial to reading, music, and the study of world religions.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joann (Janus); son, Nathan, and his wife, Christine, of Shirley, MA; son, Adam, of Fountain Hill, PA; brother, Jeffrey, and his wife, Marilen, of Jim Thorpe, PA; brother, Jonathan, of Greenville, NC; granddaughter, Adeline; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy Reed, and his brother, Jason.
A service will be held on August 3 at 11:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, located at 245 East Broad Street in Bethlehem, PA. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
