Michael Stephen Reel, known affectionately as Mike to his friends and family, passed away on March 16, 2025. Born on June 17, 1960, in St. Charles, MO, son of Walter J. and Mary Ann Reel.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Catherine "Cathy" Reel nee Pollard of Defiance, Missouri; two sons, Curtis (Shannan) Reel and Timmy (fiancé Mariah) Reel; brother to Danny Reel, Kenneth (Judy) Reel, and sister Susanne Roethler; eight nieces and nephews, Brittney (Chris) Donovan, Danielle (Alex) Alsup, Nichole (Ryan) Swanson, Meghan Reel, Eric (fiancé' Tayler) Roethler, Kenneth (fiancé Sarah) Reel Jr., Joshua (Katie) Reel, Jacob Reel, and Loria Carnefix as well as his five grandchildren, Curtis Joseph "C.J." Reel, Jr., Jamison Moore, Henry Reel, Scarlett Jinkerson, and Charlotte Reel; sister-in-law, Linda Jean Carnefix; and his extended family of great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Walter J. Reel, mother, Mary Ann Reel nee Hathaway, step-mother, Jean Reel, and father and mother-in-law, Dallas and Bernita Mayfield.
After graduating from St. Dominic High School in O'Fallon, MO, in 1978, Mike worked at Schnucks and he went on to become a skilled Diesel Mechanic before finding his niche as a salesman for Snap-On Tools and then for Construction Supply Company. He had a strong commitment to his community, as evidenced by his involvement as a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where he was previously honored with the Heart of the Parish Award.
Mike had many interests. He was a familiar face at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church fish fry's and sausage dinners, where he delighted in cooking for the congregation. Mike was an avid listener of KSHE-95 radio and an enthusiast of the outdoors, often found enjoying his jeep and motorcycles. His passion for sports led him to coach baseball youth league in New Melle, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandkids at their sporting events. The weekly family pool parties he hosted were a testament to his love for bringing people together.
Mike's friendly and spirited nature made him a people person through and through. He had the rare ability to make everyone feel like family, and his absence will leave a void in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all that loved him.
