"Hammer" Michael Lynn Roberts was the 8th child born to Maezell Lockett Roberts and Franklin Delano Alexander in Houston, Texas and was raised in Sunny Side.. Michael accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Grove M.B.C. under the leadership of Pastor Louis Coleman. He joined Trinity MBC under the leadership of Pastor R.J. Lott. He rejoined and rededicated his life back to Christ and the Trinity MBC under the leadership of Pastor Charles W. Gaines. Many people didn't know that Michael was mentally disabled because he carried himself just as normal as anyone without a disability. He played football and basketball with the neighborhood boys. When it came to basketball, he had a lovely left hand shot that players did not expect. With that same left hand, a few can tell you, he had a mean left hook as well. Mike was an avid card player of Spade, Whisk, Tonk, and Pitty-Pat. He was the partner everyone wanted when it came to cards and dominoes, for they knew he was going to be scoring and talking smack. Mike liked to dance growing up. He was good at two stepping and swing out. He often practiced swinging out with a door and the doorknob being the hand he held. Due to Mike's OCD, he had a cognitive ritual of creating artwork, either by drawing or cutting out pictures or figures. The artwork included subjects like the sun, smiling faces, cartoon charters he created, masculine women, himself and even pictures of family members, especially of his nieces. In his earlier years, he was the second-best cook of fish, chicken, mashed potatoes and fries, next to his mother. He also made a mean picture of Kool-Aid. When he was feeling good, his nieces and nephews could always expect apiece of candy from him. Mike was well known in the neighborhood and well loved by his multitude of relatives, up to his death, old neighborhood friends and cousins asked about him often, would go visit him, reminisce with him about their mischievous behavior growing up, and some made sure they came by to see him when the came back to visit Houston. Mike kept a hustle. He would go help the neighbors with their "around the house" chores, cut yards, wash cars, or catch family members alone and ask for some change or a cigarette. Mike preceded in death by his father, Franklin D. Alexander; mother, Maezell Lockett Roberts; sister, Shirley Roberts Hadnot; brothers Alexander "Bunk" Roberts, Donald Roberts, Walter "Jack" Lockett, Larry Roberts, and Carl Jerry Roberts. He lives to cherish his memories, sister, Leona "Shae" Roberts, and brothers, John Eddie Roberts (Christine) and Will Irvin Roberts (Beverly), a maternal aunt, Willie B. Lockett. He has no children but had a boatload of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a few great-great nieces and nephews. Among those nieces and nephews, he had some close relationships with Jimishia Roberts who he named TuTu, Courtney Roberts (Michael) who he named Meemo Sabbi, Adrian "Bubba Gum" Roberts, Cameron "40 Oz- Forty for short" Roberts (Nicole), Tera Turnipseed aka Moo-Moo, Lloyd Earl aka Paw-Paw West, and Keitra Roberts.
