Michael Alexander Rollheiser

Michael Alexander Rollheiser, a beloved father, brother, mentor, and cherished member of the Taos community, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, at Taos Senior Living in New Mexico. Surrounded by family and friends and supported with compassionate care, Michael’s passing marks the close of a life richly lived, deeply felt, and lovingly remembered.

Born on October 4, 1947, in Highland Park, Illinois, Michael was the son of Esther and Alexander Rollheiser. He spent his early years in Highland Park, forming lifelong friendships and laying the foundation for a life defined by curiosity, connection, and kindness. He graduated from Deerfield High School with the Class of 1965, beginning a journey shaped by purpose and a genuine interest in the world around him.

Fond memories after high school include a road trip from the Chicagoland area that he took with friends and his brother Steven to Yellowstone National Park in 1966—a story he would recount often, always with warmth and laughter.

Soon after, he answered the call to serve his country. From 1967 to 1970, he served honorably during the Vietnam era, stationed in Panama, where he worked intercepting Morse code. His service reflected the discipline, resilience, and quiet strength that would remain hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

Upon returning home, Michael pursued higher education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he earned honors in psychology. His studies reflected a lifelong passion for understanding people—a gift that would shape both his professional life and his personal relationships.

Michael built a successful career spanning more than forty years in sales, distinguished not only by achievement but by the meaningful relationships he cultivated along the way. Known for his warmth, integrity, and natural ability to mentor others, he left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. To many, he was more than a professional contact—he was a trusted guide and a true friend.

In 2014, Michael made his home in Taos, New Mexico, where he embraced the beauty and simplicity of retirement. He found joy in photography, cooking, and sharing meals with those he loved. His appreciation for life’s quiet moments reflected a spirit grounded in gratitude and generosity. From July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021, he served as President of the Taos Lions Club, dedicating his time and energy to serving others and strengthening the community he held dear. His leadership fostered connection, compassion, and lasting friendships.

Above all, Michael’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Sara Rollheiser, who was the center of his world; his brother, Steven (Tawney) Rollheiser; and his daughter’s beloved dog, Darla, who brought him great happiness and companionship. His steadfast love and unwavering support for Sara throughout her life stand as a lasting testament to his gentle and devoted heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Esther (Olson) Rollheiser.

Michael also held a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and extended his kindness beyond people to all living beings. His compassion was quiet but profound, touching the lives of many in ways both big and small.

Michael Alexander Rollheiser will be remembered for his warmth, his wisdom, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he met. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely.
