Michael Rose Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anthony Funeral & Cremation Chapels - Brighton/Rochester Chapel on Jan. 10, 2023.
Pittsford - Michael Rose, of Pittsford, NY, born June 19, 1951 in Potsdam, NY, passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2023, with his loving wife of over 41 years, Susan, by his side.
Michael is predeceased by his parents, Arden (Pete) and Marguerite Rose. He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Phil, his wife Cassie, and daughter Sutton; daughter, Julie, her husband Herschel, and daughter Sarah; sister, Nancy; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Chuck, Mary, Peggy, Bob, Patty, Michael, Lisa, and John; many loving nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and his family dog, Nutmeg. He was also fortunate to have many good friends throughout his life. Michael was persistent against his cancer diagnosis, surpassing his prognosis by years to welcome his granddaughters.
Michael is a graduate of Pittsford Sutherland High School, class of 1969, and attended college in Florida.
He founded Pittsford Woods Firewood in 1973, and owned and operated the business for nearly 45 years, forming lasting friendships with many employees, customers, and others in the business.
A resident of Pittsford since 1957, he had a lifelong dedication to the community, serving for 38 years on various town boards. Attending the Rotary Club's Election Day Pancake Supper was an annual highlight.
Michael's second hometown was Long Lake, NY, where he spent his early years, and then every summer since, where he loved being with friends and family on the water.
Much of Michael's life was organized around the Olympics. Ever since attending the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, NY, and being present for the "Miracle on Ice" hockey game, he became an Olympics enthusiast. From Lake Placid in 1980 to Pyeongchang in 2018, he went to 22 winter and summer games in 14 countries. He was proud to have been interviewed about his love of the Olympics and pin collecting by outlets ranging from the Democrat and Chronicle to The Today Show.
Playing and supporting sports was one of his abiding passions, including being an enthusiastic fan of his son Phil's hockey teams and leagues, from Perinton Youth Hockey to SUNY Geneseo; helping to create a Pittsford adult softball league and, with the Pittsford Woods softball team, organizing an annual softball tournament and fundraising banquet; regularly attending the Travers in Saratoga Springs; and being a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees and Miami Dolphins.
The family is grateful to all of Michael's caring relatives, friends, medical providers, and aides, particularly Casey Sens, for their generous support. They would be honored by any donations made in Michael's memory to the UR Wilmot Cancer Center or the Greater Rochester Amateur Athletic Foundation.
Friends may call Saturday, January 14 from 2-5PM at Anthony Funeral Chapel, 2305 Monroe Ave, Rochester, NY.
